South Dakota Bans Abortion

http://www.plannedparenthood.org/pp2/portal/media/pressreleases/pr-060222-abortion-ban.xml

"This ban is an attack on women's fundamental right of privacy and their ability to make the most intimate and personal choice about when and whether to have a child. The U.S. Supreme Court has reaffirmed time and again the constitutional right to make the private choice to have an abortion. South Dakota is entering dangerous territory with this ban."

If you can, and if you care, please do something to help out. write a letter, make a donation, spread the info. this is no triviality.

thank you.

while i've always believed "pro-life" ideas that make exceptions for rape to be slightly hypocritical, you're right, this leaves them out for the sole purpose of opposing Roe. Granted, Roe was a deliberate attempt to challenge pre-existing anti-abortion laws, but the timing was a little better.
I can't help thinking that this is horribly premature. I can't see the new court being ready, yet, to make such a strong and controversial stand against abortion as this case seems to ask. feels to me like something strange is going on here..

the governor of south dakota said himself that this bill was written and passed with the specific intent of having it challenged in the new court. this is the way in which they're redesigning the laws and rights of this country, from within. whereas our friends in san francisco pass a bill outlawing the ownership of handguns in the city of san francisco on pure ideology, the law, just as the same sex marriages, will without a doubt be overturned because it is illegal. gun ownership is not within the jurisdiction of a municipality to decide. it's sloppy, and it's garnering support in the opposite direction. in the game of appearances and PR, the left is hopelessly behind. coalescing power up the line is what's allowing these decisions to continue, and unless something unforeseen happens, it's very possible this law will be upheld. it'll cause chaos in this country, but chaos isn't what they're worried about... it's power and influence. the lack of thought for the future is sickening.
